Pinchbeck is an antique alternative to gold. It was primarily used in the 18th and 19th centuries. It's an alloy of copper and zinc that was first invented in the early 1700s by Christopher Pinchbeck. It does not quickly oxidize or tarnish, allowing it to retain the look of yellow gold.

In the Georgian and early Victorian periods, pinchbeck was used for less expensive jewelry to give the look of solid gold. Later in the 1800s, technological innovations led to it being replaced by rolled gold and lower karat gold alloys (9k and 10k). Authentic antique pinchbeck jewelry is quite rare today and sought after by collectors.
